1940’s online lesson ! My overall impression of all the countries/empires was that their civilization flourished in prosperity and culture after westernization. Their society flourished with the grandeur of western fashion assimilated into their pre-determined values. You could say it became a precious asset to have which was obtained through trade, arranged marriages between countries and by their own kings volition to endorse western fashion and popularize among high society. Communities(certain ethnic groups) with the civilization and the worldwide appreciation of European military garments also played a factor in pushing forth westernization." I’ll be going into depth explaining the westernization process of my 2 favorite countries that went through westernization: " • Japan" 1894, treaty was made between the US and the Netherlands that given Japan more trading opportunities. 1864, during Emperor Meiji era he restoring the ancient royal family power and sought out westernization efforts.Emperor Meiji wife the empress Shogun required every royal to wear Paris style gowns in court with a decree. You could see that Japanese society was being westernized through historical photographs which was used as a form of record. There was less frequent need to wear their traditional kimonos in high society but lower class civilians still wore kimonos that shown western influence- bustles, fur pelt shawl, parasols and art deco influence of textiles. Meiji ladies started to do their hair in a Paris updo fashion and incorporate western education elements in their daily routine and values like playing a instrument and learning to formally dance.Emperor Meiji son, Hirohito also enforced western fashion in form of military wear when he ascended the throne with empress Nagako. Nagako also endorsed western fashion and often wore gowns in their time." • Turkey" The Ottoman had a lot of power and controlled Southern Europe,Western Mediterranean,Arabia etc that inhabited various ethnicities that helped plant westernization roots. Early 20th century, gowns inhibited elements of western European styles while retaining their cultural identity. Ottoman wedding gowns is a great research example if you wanna see the spread Western European influence.Men often wore western suit style in combo with fez style hats and women still wore their custom religious face veil with western silhouettes and styles.Mustafa Kamil a war hero soon became the president of the republic of turkey started cultural reforms endorsing western fashion and threw away old fashioned religious customs of extensive female body covering and fez hats.%
