The lesson aims at teaching students how to use George Polya's four-step problem-solving process to solve mathematical problems. The lesson will involve introducing problem-solving and the four-set problem-solving process, giving a background to George Polya. He is considered the father of modern problemsolving discipline. The class will then cover the four-step problem-solving method and use the knowledge gained to solve numerical word problems. The purpose of this class is to teach students how to solve mathematical problems using the four-step problem-solving process. After completing the class, students should be able to solve word problems that involve percentages, numbers, rectangles, complementary angles, supplementary angles, breaking even, and consecutive integers. Objectives There are a number of objectives for the class. The first objective is for all students to understand Polya’s problem-solving method. Students should be able to use the problem-solving approach after the lesson. The second objective of the lesson is for students to state and apply problem-solving strategies. Students should be able to name problem-solving strategies and use

alsaidi 2 them in solving problems, which include four steps utilized in problem-solving. The third objective is for students to be able to apply mathematical principles in problem-solving. Students should be able to solve word problems that involve percentages, numbers, rectangles, complementary angles, supplementary angles, breaking even, and consecutive integers. Lastly, students should be able to use the problem-solving techniques learned in class to solve other problems, both personal and professional. Time The class should take between fifty and ninety minutes to complete depending on students' understanding of the topic. Materials The class will utilize numerous materials, including class textbooks, online notes, tests and assignments, and any other instructional materials that will be crucial in teaching this class. Activities Activities play a critical role in ensuring students understand the topic and retain the knowledge gained from the class. Therefore, a number of activities aimed at promoting a better understanding of the class will be implemented. The activities for this lesson will include a mix of content-focused, interactivity focused, critical thinking, and problem-solving activities. The content-focused activities will involve students interacting with content, both written and visual. The activity will help students retain the knowledge acquired during the lesson. Secondly, students will be engaged in interactive activities, including working in groups to solve some problems. The interactive activities will help promote a positive perception of the class as well as allow student-teacher interaction.

alsaidi 3 Thirdly, the critical thinking activities will offer students a chance to reflect and use the information and knowledge acquired from the class to support the development of critical thinking skills. Examples include the use of the four-step problem-solving process to tackle an assigned problem. Lastly, students will be presented with problem-solving activities, which aligns well with the topic at hand. The activities will include problems, scenarios, challenges, and cases, which students will be required to solve and provide logical solutions writing and presentation. Problem-solving activities will motivate students to gain more knowledge and understanding of the topic before solving the problems. For instance, students will be given mathematical problems and expected to solve them using the learned skills....
