DIRECTIONAL STRATEGIES AND ALTERNATIVES

2

The stated vision and strategy of Asian Health Services is to ensure that the less fortunate population in the surrounding community has the same access to healthcare as others. By giving those who may not have access to services it shows that the directional strategy of the company is to put to patient first and putting an emphasis on a high degree of satisfaction. Asian Health Services plans to accomplish this strategy by reducing the amount of readmissions to facilities by giving patients support not only between their regular doctor visits, but also before and after visits, by ensuring that they have better communication by hiring more “interpreters to address language barrier as well as policy advocacy”[ CITATION Asind \l 1033 ] and to plan for the future. An alternative strategy that Asian Health Services is utilizing is diversification. Diversification which is when a company pursues an opportunity outside of their area of expertise [ CITATION Cra15 \l 1033 ]. Asian Health Services is attempting to establish new clinics beyond their current service area and they also implemented a program that advocates for better chemical health for individuals working in nail salons. Another strategy being used by Asian Health Services is vertical integration, which is when a business merges with another that is at a different stage of production. [ CITATION The09 \l 1033 ] They are expanding services they offer to patients by adding a pediatrics department, dental department, and vision department. By integrating these departments, they help expand their services and support membership growth to AHS. Enhancement is when a business wants to improve and make the services they currently offer. This can be done by increasing efficiency, having a better quality of service for patients, and decreasing wait times. Asian Health Services is a not-for-profit organization and they have access to limited funds, and because of this they must really look at how they allocate funds. In order to properly ensure this AHS must increase overall productivity;

DIRECTIONAL STRATEGIES AND ALTERNATIVES this was obtained by implementing an electronic health record so that patient health information could be documented easily and simultaneously which in turn allocated more time for patients because employees were spending less time on paperwork. Asian Health Services applied the alternative and directional strategies to their mission and values by choosing things that focus on improving healthcare services that are offered to the surrounding community. By increasing services that are offered to its patients, AHS expands scope of practice. The advocacy program that was implemented has Asian Health Services, local government officials, and members of the community coming together for a good cause that can help improve the health of the surrounding community. Also, by reducing overall costs Asian Health Services can allocate more money into technological advancement, adding more services and/or locations, and into its employees’ salaries, which has been an issue for AHS in the past. Asian Health Services has done a wonderful job committing to the strategies they have utilized. The advocacy program allowed them to be eligible for more grants that previously and allowed them to understand what the surrounding community wants and needs regarding their health. Their mission statement and their patient population are what pushes Asian Health Services to keep serving their community and always striving to improve care.
