UNIT 1 Launching the imagination. For me, the best way to achieve a successful project is through goal setting, visual research and brainstorming. Setting a goal includes establishing priorities, a timeline, being persistent and self reliant. Any type of work needs commitment, and the more engaged and prepared I am, the easier it is to get things done. After I have my priorities and goals in mind, visual and verbal research can provide the background information needed to create a truly original work. Getting inspiration and knowing what I’m up to expands the horizons in my mind and inspire new ideas. But ideas come from many sources, including common objects, nature, mythology, and history, so it’s important to keep brainstorming as ideas can always be expanded and enriched. Making lists, diagrams and connections are all ways to take ideas outside of the box. Art Statement My quartz stone bracelet was made additively fabricated with pink quartz stones, bronze artist wire, a plier and a bracelet chain. The only stones I could get were pretty big so my initial idea was to make a necklace wiring three stones together, but with a hammer and safety glasses I was able to smash the big stones and get smaller ones. I took two 5” wires and twisted them tight into each other. Then, I assembled the stone in the middle of the wires and wrapped the wire around the stone to hold it with tension and then curled the wire on top of the stone. I did this with 5 stones. Once again, with the plier I curled the wire around the bracelet chain shackle and did the same with two other of the wired stones to create a pattern within the bracelet. The end parts of the wires ended up a little bit pointy and dangerous texture but heating them up with a lighter fixed the problem. The result was a beautiful three stone pendant bracelet.

UNIT 2 Develop Critical Thinking Using critical thinking, an artist or a designer can identify strengths and weaknesses in a project and determine the improvements that need to be made. ● The first step in creating a design is to understand its purpose; in our case, we will participate in the Prysmian and SCAD Spirit category on the Sand Arts Festival. Understanding the criteria on which a project will be judged is essential on the construction of ideas. For the Sand Arts project, being clear of in which category we are competing and what are the rules and regulations is essential for the success of our project. A shared language is the basis on which all communication is built, so all members of the team need to be aware of this information. ● For any project, but especially for one up for competition, critique is fundamental. Many critique methods may be used, but in every case, there are three primary objectives: explore alternatives, delete nonessentials, and strengthen essentials. ● We have to be careful to engage in the right iconography for the SCAD Spirit category, because we don’t want to fall on a cliché, an overused expression or predictable treatment of an idea. Even the most interesting image will lose its power if overused. We should choose a style, iconography, and composition best suited to our category, because a mismatch between the type of image and its purpose creates confusion.

UNIT 3 My casting composition will be made through several elements mentioned in the reading” ● A grid, created through a series of intersecting lines, will help me achieve the correct proportions (referring to the size relationship with the image) and measurements of the Panamá map I’m trying to create. ● My dominant, primary composition will be the country as a whole, achieved by the combination of multiple parts balanced by irregularities and organic edges. I may add a heart to the place where Panama City is supposed to be, to create emphasis and give prominence to that part. ● My choice of materials, foam board and the Flex-Foam-it V, was made taking into consideration the strength, workability, durability, weight, cost, toxicity, and function of the materials. The Flex-Foam-it V was mainly chosen for the way it grows 16 times its size and adds a spongy effect to my object....
