Description

What are some of the obvious differences between the two screenwriting methods (two column versus full page)? Why are the script formats so different; why are they not universally the same (for a narrative project versus for a commercial project)? Which format do you prefer and why? 4-1 Discussion: Comparing Scripts and Screen Plays The first thing I noticed between the difference in column and full-page scripts is that full page scripts read more like a story, and a two column reads more like a script or direction. A fullpage script is more focused on what is going on rather than the sounds, displays, and different cues that are added in a two-column script. Full page scripts are often for narratives that have three-acts, and can be predictable, where as a two-column script is often used for commercial. These scripts are formatted different because with a narrative it allows room for the actors and directors to assert emotion and stage performance to go along with the narrative. A commercial script is going to have everything down on cue to get their message or idea across to the audience without any confusion. I personally prefer a full-page script. I enjoy reading and writing narratives more. I somehow feel there’s more room to be creative with a full-page script but at the same time you could have more control with a two-column script. Ronald, I agree with your analysis of these two script formats! I didn’t really feel like I had much of preference between the two either, except reading narratives can be more fun than a commercial type story. Although, there are a few that I have read that are creative and I enjoyed. I agree that they are not universally the same, a two column is meant more for commercial and PSA. Full page scripts are meant more for movies, tv shows, and even plays. Nice post! Nikki Roberto, Although I sort of prefer a full-page script, I must agree with your stance on the two-column script. You do get more control and all aspects of what the writer has in mind for the image of script is laid out along with what happens in eye sight. I also think this is due to the commercial

and PSA side of these scripts. Like you, I struggled adapting to writing one because I like a fullpage script more. Maybe working with a two-column script will help with how we use dialogue in writing! Nice post, Nikki...
