5-2 Final Project Milestone Three: Draft of Primary Concern

The aging population have concerns like being chronically ill, frail, cognitively impaired, and mobility problem. Mobility is a major concern in the aging population because they like to do things for themselves. Mobility means the ability to move or be moved freely and easily. The aging population are noticing as they get older it is harder for them to get around. Without mobility you feel like you are losing your independence because you can’t go out like you want, you can’t move around like you use to, and you can’t take care of your daily needs. They can’t go out an be social with their family and friends. It changes the family structure on the health and caregiving. One well-being impact concern when someone has mobility issues, is when that person has been going to shopping for groceries all of their adult life and they can’t because they can’t walk well anymore or stand long anymore because they have knee and back problems. Some time they have nerve problem and loss the balance all the time and they loss movement in their legs. There are many factors that influence our health. These are called determinants of health. One kind of determinant of health is what is in our genes and our biology. Another determinant is our individual behavior. This could include whether we smoke, exercise, or eat a balanced diet. Many people assume that their health is a result of their genes, their behaviors, and how often they get sick or go to the doctor. But it’s not just how you live that determines how healthy you are. Social and physical environments have a big impact on our health, too. These are called social determinants of health (Familydoctors, org staff; 2020). One factor I think about a lot is 1

Mobility

the fact that aging population that goes to church can’t go anymore because they are not able to drive anymore, and they don’t have anyone to take them. The protective factor that I used is when someone that has aged does not have transportation to get to church. They can have free transportation setup for them when they need to go place’s or they can have family to take them if they are welling. If they don’t have anyone, they can be setup with a caseworker to help setup help with their needs. The aging population are at risk for physical and mental health complication when they can’t get around like they did use to, do to not having the ability to like they did 10 to 15 years ago. They could start getting depressed, stressed, or have anxiety and that could lead to bigger problem. They could have a heart attack, do to the stress or they could have a stroke. So, that is why the aging population need a good support group, whether it is a caseworker, family, or friends that could help them.
