Description

93 Days: A Movie Review The film is based on the true story on the Ebola outbreak in 2014. It particularly focuses the sacrifices of the health workers who risked their lives to treat and isolate an outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in Nigeria, making them the real heroes of a lifetime. The story involves the life story of the medical team at First Consultant Medical Center

that saves countless lives by leading the containment of the virus. With Stella Ameyo Adadevoh leading the team who oversaw the treatment of Patrick Sawyer, a diplomat and recorded as the patient zero of contracting the Ebola virus. Ada prevented Sawyer in boarding a flight to Calabar and instead admit him to the hospital. After being exposed with the patient, the team choses to isolate themselves and staying alert of their temperatures. Despite sleepless nights, Adadevoh shows unselfish love and care, finding ways for her co-workers to contain the virus. She also provided staff with relevant information about the virus, get a helping hand from Dr. David which has seen and has witnessed the wrath of Ebola. They are unified in preparing procured protective gear and quickly contacting relevant officials. At the end of the movie, unfortunately eight people died in Nigeria including Adadevoh that has just greeted her son a happy birthday. On the bright side, twelve have survived and nursed back to health including Dr. Ada Igonoh. Now when it comes to the cinematography and how realistically the situations are portrayed, I think are absolutely great in my opinion. I have also observed various scenarios and characters that I felt is needed to be addressed. These include the scenes that strikes me most especially when the health workers still prayed to the Lord despite their current situation. Yes, throughout the whole film, I find it fascinating how they always remember to pray and mention the Lord despite the doubts and worries yet they still chose to hold onto their faith. Aside from Dr. Adadevoh, I admire Dr Ada Igonoh’s perseverance to withstand the virus. Being one of the first batch infected and having to witness your colleagues die one by one is truly saddening. Despite this, she may be weak at body but even stronger by faith. I also observe how Dr. David serves not just Ada’s guardian in fighting the virus but a great virologist every country would wished for. In my perspective, right from where they identify the workers and people in contact to Sawyer, take note that they are already knowledgeable of the virus especially the incubation period which is 21 days. At that point, they should be isolated directly the moment the facility is prepared. It is somewhat a troublesome move to send those people back into their homes where chances of transmission is still, possibly high even though transmission is mostly direct contact to blood since body fluids via objects of the infected may also expose people. I do think that there are also loopholes in which explains why the virus quickly infects people. First, the fear of getting and being infected. I find Sawyer a bit annoying especially when he spill his own blood to the health workers. I am not to judge because we cannot exactly say if it is a product of either selfishness or hopelessness. A perfect example also

resembles the drivers that are needed to get the suspected persons, rather they aren’t doing their job which leads us to the second point, sluggish response to the people who’s been in contact to the patient zero. The good thing is, the workers made up their minds to dedicate themselves to fight the virus. Third, the equipment and facility shortage to which slows down the response of the virus. We cannot deny that even in Nigeria, government’s response is quiet slow and so Adadevoh accompanied by David with the rest of his team strives through their limits. Therefore, 93 days somewhat mirrors our current events in dealing COVID 19. It is most likely an eye opener on why people need to understand how deadly a contagious virus is. If only countries prioritize more on health and safetiness of their people, letting down their political precedence and keeping importance of the medical innovations and health workers, maybe countries especially in India would not suffer. The film clearly conveys something about the battle between people and a certain virus, but the question still stays up to the viewers, if it moved them to do something in making the situation, better or worse?...
