In preparation for determining your carbon footprint, estimate your household gas and electricity use and your transportation mileage.

Go to the website of CoolClimate Network (https://coolclimate.berkeley.edu/calculator) or EPA (https://www3.epa.gov/carbon-footprint-calculator/)
•
Add your values to calculate your personal footprints.
•
Explore different options to see how each item affects your carbon footprint
•
Complete the carbon footprint calculation for both websites prior to class
Questions that we will discuss in class (in Mentimeter poll): •
What is your carbon footprint (tons CO2eq/year)? Is your higher or lower than average?
My tons of CO2 eq/year was 30. Most of which was allocated in my homes power usage (39% worse) and diet (19% worse). My average carbon footprint was 28% better than average. With travel (92% better), goods (74% better), and service (82% better) being the leaders in household tons of CO2 eq/year.
•
What kinds of different choices could reduce your carbon footprint?
According to the site, I can purchase green electricity, install pv panels, install low flow toilets, line dry clothing, and much more. They also suggested more tangible solutions such as planting trees, eating a low carbon diet, and print things double sided. Since I am living off campus with roomates its unlikely that I will being able to modify the home in anyway, however I can make changes to my diet and be more conscious of my actions....
