DED202 Assessment3 Timeline weighting: 30% submit: PDF document via Blackboard by 11.59pm on Friday 31st January brief Prepare a visual summary of major contextual events, styles/movements, designers and selected significant creations related to the discipline of architecture. Compile your timeline with suitable text and images. Overall there are 39 design items to be located on the timeline. We prescribe 20 items and each student selects another 19 items. Choose designs that fit into the page gaps of the timeline, are exemplary of major design styles and places in the world, and provide a mixture of types (e.g. not all churches). This timeline should be your own work and demonstrate abilities listed on the Criteria Referenced Assessment Sheet. !

rationale The purpose of this piece of assessment is to reinforce your knowledge about fundamental aspects of the history of a design discipline. Through this assessment we will evaluate your demonstration of these 4 unit learning outcomes:! 1. Describe and discuss the relevance and purpose of the study of history to the practice of design! 2. Demonstrate knowledge of the people, events, history and vocabulary of design ! 3. Describe and discuss the linkages between selected theoretical, social and practical design concepts 4. Critically analyse sources and develop well-considered, logical, written responses and argument concerning design

Place a TITLE PAGE at the start that includes the vital identifiers: TITLE (Timeline for your discipline), your name, student number, unit code and unit name (DED202 Introducing Design History), and year. ! Reference using QUT APA style (see QUT cite / write). Include a Reference List (not a bibliography) on a seperate page at the end of the document. Use in-text citation style for content and images. ! Use ONLY the recommended text for your timeline research. DO NOT USE any other texts or online sources for your data. IMAGES from the internet are permitted if there is no alternative in the book (must be cited and referenced). Start gathering data for these entries immediately to manage your workload better. Get incremental feedback from your tutor to ensure you are on track.! YOU MUST USE THE TIMELINE TEMPLATE AS IS. DO NOT CHANGE THE LAYOUT or COLOURING etc. We are interested in your understanding of content and research skills not your graphic design.! Each design item entry (39 items) must have the following pieces of data: ! • WHAT: name of item! • WHERE: location of place constructed! • WHEN: date/s of construction! • DESIGNER/S: when known! • STYLE: design movement if identifiable/named, or big design idea or motivation! • SIGNIFICANCE: explain significance (e.g. designer, material, technology, construction technique, influence, popularity, style, politics, religion, symbolism, culture or status etc)! Save as a PDF and reduce the size to be under 40MB before submission to Blackboard.
