Taylor Woolstenhulme L01 Enrich Essay Acquiring Spiritual Knowledge

The talk that I choose to read was Elder Richard G. Scott’s conference talk from October 1993 titled Acquiring Spiritual Knowledge.  This was such a powerful talk, and even though it is teaching about gaining spiritual knowledge, I think that many of its principles can be applied to gaining knowledge of all kind. There are four principles that Elder Scott lists that will help you on your journey to high knowledge. The first being that we must have humility. I think that this is so important because if you go into something thinking that you already know everything that there is to know, then you will never learn anything new. The second principle is that must exercise our faith in Jesus Christ. Things can be confusing when it comes to spiritual knowledge, and it we don’t have faith it is very easy to become discouraged and give up. The third principle is to listen to our Heavenly Father's counsel. Our Heavenly Father wants to help us find the truth, we would be crazy not seek his counsel. The fourth and final principle is to keep His commandments. I was a little confused when I first read this one because I couldn't see how this directly applied to seeking and acquiring spiritual knowledge. But then I realized that the commandment keep us closer to our Heavenly Father and keep us in the mindset that is ready to gain spiritual knowledge. Elder Scott goes on to say that, “As spiritual knowledge unfolds, it must be understood, valued, obeyed, remembered, and expanded.” I think that that is such an important thing to remember if we want to really achieve the goals of spiritual knowledge. And I would just like to add that when you look for truth, the best companion that you can have on that journey is our Heavenly Father. He can help us on our journey and help us see the light....
