ACTIVE AND PASSIVE We use the active form to say what the subject does. We use the passive form to say what happens to the subject. When the passive form is used, who or what causes the action is often unknown or unimportant. If you want to say who or what causes the action you use "BY ". For passive constructions you need the 1.
