ANSWER SHEET...
Activity No. 4.3 Test I. Discussion Name:Alanah Jane Garcia Section:BSMT 2A
Activity No. 4.4
Essay
Directions: Answer the following questions 1. What is a chain of amino acids called? A polypeptide is a chain of amino acids. The amino acids in a peptide are connected to one another in a sequence by bonds called peptide bonds. 2. These chains of amino acids are held together by bonds. The amino acids in a peptide are connected to one another in a sequence by bonds called peptide bonds.
3. What is the byproduct of forming the bonds mentioned in the above questions? Dehydration reaction (water) is the byproduct when you form the bonds which are mentioned above. 4. Draw a polypeptide chain
5. What part of an amino acid’s chemistry determines the functions of a protein? It is called side chain. The chemistry of amino acid side chains is critical to protein structure because these side chains can bond with one another to hold a length of protein in a certain shape or conformation. Charged amino acid side chains can form ionic bonds, and polar amino acids are capable of forming hydrogen bonds.
Test II. Discussion
Directions: Answer the following questions. 1. What element atoms are protein made of? The atoms most prevalent in these are carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen. 2. Unlike carbohydrates and lipids, protein contain which element? Protein contains nitrogen since both the functional groups are attached to the a-carbon so they are called a-amino acids. 3. What types of food can you find protein in? Animal/by products are type of foods which are considered part of the protein group. 4. What is the monomer of a protein? Proteins are composed of monomers called amino acids which are linked together to form a polypeptide chain. 5. Draw the monomer of a protein?...
