Adson's Test...
Adson Test Determines whether a client has thoracic outlet syndrome. TOS is a neurovascular syndrome complex associated with compression of the brachial bundle (includes the brachial plexes and all subclavian vessels). The compression may be caused by several anatomical structures in one or more of the following three compartments: 1. Scalene Triangle 2. Costoclavicular Space 3. Pectoralis Minor Space The Adson Test is designed to decrease the space in the interscalene triangle. To perform the Adson Test, have the patient sitting in upright position with his arms on his lap. You will ask the patient to rotate and extend his neck to the tested side. This is followed by a deep breath for up to 30 seconds as the therapist checks for any changes in the radial pulse. Modification is described with the shoulder in 15 degrees of abduction and the head maintained in the testing position for one minute while the patient breathes normally. This test is positive if the radial pulse is abolished or if the patient’s familiar symptoms are reproduced....
