MODE MOTOR CARRIER

ADVANTAGES -

-

OCEAN FREIGHT

-

-

-

DISADVANTAGES

Roads need less capital than the railways Unlike railways, road transport provides a flexible service to workers and materials. Motor transport is useful at small distances.

-

By comparison, some estimates show that ocean freight shipping costs are generally four to six times less expensive than air. making ocean transportation the cheapest international shipping option. Regardless of the size of shipments, sea freight companies can usually accommodate the receiver’s needs, with small and big deliveries. Ships provide the most carbon-efficient mode of transportation and produce fewer grams of exhaust gas emissions for each ton of cargo transported than any other shipment method.

-

Road transport system is linked with frequent accidents. Due to the rise in Petrol and Diesel, it can become a financial burden. Unsuitable for many products and goods.

It is a slow means of transport. Possible danger of sinking ships. Certain places might not have the facilities of ports and terminals and cannot receive large ships carrying containers.

AIR FREIGHT

-

-

RAIL

-

-

-

Has a vast global reach, meaning products can be sent and received anywhere. Shipments can be tracked by tracking number. One of the fastest transport options.

-

Trains burn less fuel per ton-mile than road vehicles. Trains carry more freight at the same time compared to road transport. Long-distance freight movement is cheaper and quicker by rail.

-

Flight costs more than any other ways of transport. Heavily weather dependent. Has very critical size and weight limitations.

Additional costs to move a container from the railhead to the final destination, mostly using road freight. Possible delays in cross border due to change of train operators. Not economically viable across shorter distances.

Pipeline Pros (1) It can be transported continuously, is not affected by the weather, and has high reliability throughout the day. (2) The pipeline can take shortcuts and the transportation distance is short. (3) The transportation volume is large. A foreign coal pipe with a diameter of 720 mm can transport 20 million tons of coal a year, which is almost equivalent to the single-direction conveying capacity of a single-track railway. (4) High environmental benefits and no harmful substances. Cons (1) The specialty is strong, the transportation goods are too specialized, and the transportation items are limited to gases, liquids, and fluids. (2) The distance between the pipeline transportation volume and the maximum transportation volume is small. (3) Forever one-way transportation, poor maneuverability. (4) Fixed investment is large.

1. Grapes from a field in California to a fruit market in Winnipeg. Air because fresh produce needs to be delivered fast and must remain under a proper environment, such as a freezer. 2. Honda Automobiles from Tokyo Japan, to a Honda dealership in Toronto. Most cars and their parts are transported by ship, due to flights having a critical weight limit that would make the quantity delivered low. Ships provide the largest possible sizes of transports....
