Fish Aesthetic response: confused, freaky, impressive, striking, impressive Analysis: i. Noticed it was a woman posing, intricate ii. Pictures and then idea? Or idea then pictures? iii. Same woman doing all different poses. NAKED. Maybe the point of her being is naked is to reiterate the skeleton idea- bare minimum iv. We liked that they used something as soft as a woman’s body to make something so hard/harsh v. The eye pose is more open because the eye might be more exposed than the spines (more closed off) The difference is important because our analysis changed the way we felt about the photo Arms Break. Vases Don’t. Aesthetic response: confusing, protecting, ironic Analysis: i. Story to go along with image? ii. The vase represents something precious or overwhelming; the arms breaking is a result of the weight of the situation (vase) iii. Flowers in the vase are dying or dried: represent loss of loved one, once dropped, they fragment iv. Flowers on the vase show some kind of innocence or sentimental value to the person holding it – worth breaking their arms Dust in the future, in the present, in the past Aesthetic response: what the hell is this, scary, digital art, sweeping and deteriorating Analysis: i. Sweeping up their own broken pieces: depression? ii. Sweeping and putting themselves back together is what keeps them going; continuous iii. Can represent the human condition: the action creates the self destruction iv. Can represent society: pieces are falling and crumbling down faster than we can build them back up again Transportation Aesthetic response: pretty, concealed, shadowed Analysis: i. Different facial expressions from the same people on the bus ii. Huge juxtaposition between the colorful flowers and the shadowed faces of the people on the bus iii. Only white people on the bus (time period: 1950’s, 1960’s)

Flowers are appealing at first, but can be suffocating

Follow Your Dreams Canceled Aesthetic response: graffiti, empowerd, sad, defiant Analysis: i. Banksy’s mode of art is graffiti ii. Sadness comes from the sheer fact that someone’s dreams were canceled; whether the artist made the whole picture at the same time, or “Follow your dreams” was put first and then “cancelled” over it iii. “Cancelled” stands out much more than anything else in the picture White Painting Aesthetic response: why the hell am I looking at 3 white panels on a wall, this is ridiculous, why is this art, disappointment, what the fuck Analysis: i. Painted white with latex ii. Very large painting itself – 3 panels iii. In real life, would cast shadows of anyone who stands in front of it iv. Different experience every time you look at it v. Somehow… this is art. Accept it vi. Statement: “I can do whatever the hell I want. It’s not my job to make art that tells you a story. Tell your own story” vii. Still makes me angry The Hands of Dr. Moore Aesthetic response: creepy, interesting, many different parts, overwhelming Analysis: i. Tree has shape of a woman’s body ii. Banner at the bottom is not in English: “The hands of Dr. Moore trims the tree of life so that it is renewed and does not die” iii. Rebirth, amputating the dead part of the tree iv. Balls of light on top of the tree looks like cells dividing v. Almost like the hands of God (despite the title) vi. Care within the hands, precision, surgical Revolution Aesthetic response: grim, historical, sad, hopeless

Analysis: i. Cut one down, another grows ii. One person’s downfall is another person’s victory iii. Controlling, repetitive iv. Cynical It’s Hardly Noticeable Aesthetic response: ew, nope, gross Analysis: i. Cup is full even though milk is pouring out ii. Human condition: emotions pour out but it’s still full iii.
