Part 3 Agency Mandate/ Composition (6 marks) What is the general purpose / function of this organization? OSS is the charitable organization which is formed in 1968 by the respect people of Sikh community. The function of the Ottawa Sikh Society is feed the hunger and give shelter to the people. Even to nourish the people with the history and the religion believe among the community.

Does this organization have a formal Mission Statement? If so, what is it? There is no formal mission however it has believe that welfare of every human being with peace and calmness. Even it motivate people that unity is the power source to nourish this world.

Does this organization have a Vision Statement? If so, what is it? Yes, the organizations have a vision First teaching values and culture of Sikhism Second raising awareness among the people Third teach “Unity is the power to develop the nation”

What are their positions /

There are priest who are getting payment from the organization How many volunteers are utilized by this agency? In the organization, there is no fixed number of the volunteers because anyone can come and do work(Seva) however, on the festival there are around 400-600 people who enrolled in the different activites.

What are some of the other volunteer positions/ duties available with this organization? In the Gurudwara Sahib there are many jobs like cooking food, cleaning the hall, serving the food to the people where, people are seating in the ques , washing the dishes and arrange the parking area.

when it was created who founded it why it was created how this agency has grown or expanded what changes have taken place since its inception how this agency has been funded throughout the years

1. Ottawa Sikh society was created in March 1982 2. It was Founded by the Sikh Community of the Ottawa 3. It was created so that Canadian Sikh can worship and learn the tradition and moral values of the Sikh community 4. It is a charitable organization. Every day, people are contributing their goods and time for the welfare of the Sikh community and others. At the time, organization has started approximately 100 people were involved but now it’s almost 5000 people. 5. Since the beginning the area (land) of the Gurudwara Sahib has increased, technology has been implemented to make the volunteers work easier like the dish washing machine. Basically it renovate serval times. 6. It is funded organization. It has been funded by the members of the OSS as well as the people of Sikh community. Although, it is not compulsory for everyone to donate

something.

Part 5 Your Duties as a Volunteer (6 marks) Please outline your duties and responsibilities as a volunteer for this organization

My duties varies according to need. The duties has assigned me since I have started this course are the preparing food in the kitchen, serve the food to the hall where people are setting. Even some times I have done the cleaning in the langar hall and the area where we are praying. I was also a part of the project “langar of hunger”. In this project, we were serving food at the downtown Ottawa. And gives then the short book about the good hygiene. In the Gurudwara Sahib, I helped in the parking the vehicles on the festivals.

Part 6 Your Clients (6 marks) Generally speaking, who are your clients, where do they come from and why are they utilizing this agency?

Ottawa Sikh Society represent the Sikh Religion. As we always learned that “guest is our god” so whosoever are coming to the Sikh temple is our guest or client. In the temple, every caste, color, religion are welcome to Sikh temple. In the OSS, there is small school where students are learning Punjabi and the rule and regulations are followed by Sikh religion. Main thing the organization is providing is food to the people who are needy or not between 6am to 9pm.

I served numerous customers at Gurdwara sahib who come to visit Gurdwara either to do supplications or to get free sustenance. I met numerous individuals and took their supposition about existence and any issue they confronted. As there is no specific client. As per, I said that it is Sikh temple so mostly are from the Sikhism. Any age, gender and background of the people can come there. As a mention before that there is a school where students are learning the Punjabi and rule are followed by Sikhism....
