Common areas that were well done:
Generally everything done well, on all the material. Especially questions concerning fields, finite fields, irreducibility, statements and definitions, and properties of integral domains went very smoothly.
Common errors, misunderstandings or other areas requiring improvement:
Some difficult points were: prove that a map is well-defined, in other words does not depend on the choice of a coset representative (many people checked that it is a homomorphism instead); the tricky R->S1xS2 question: note that I_1+I_2 is a sum, not a union of two ideals, (think of I1=2Z, I2=3Z in Z); some people give C as a ring with r1^2=r2^2=r3^2=1 thinking that i^2=1: note that in any field x^2=1 cannot have more than two solutions, so the correct example (such as Z/8Z or ZxZ) cannot be an integral domain; some people stated that alpha is constructible _if_ or _iff_ [Q(alpha):Q]=power of 2, which is the wrong implication.
General comments on the paper:
Generally, excellent results on a difficult exam...
