In your paragraph, you should incorporate at least one piece of evidence from the text to support your claim. (DO NOT ANSWER THIS PROMPT YET!) Claim: Bradbury uses a variety of metaphors to portray an image of life on Venus and creates a palpable feeling of discovering the pleasures of the sun.

1. Listen/watch the video as you follow along with the text. 2. Revisit the text and read it again. As you read, look for evidence of the THREE STRONGEST literary devices that you can find. After you have identified the THREE STRONGEST literary devices from the text, use a direct quote from the text as evidence of the literary device that you discovered. For EACH literary device, EXPLAIN how the quote you chose is evidence of the literary device. For example: Third Person Omniscient Narration (POV): “And so, the children hated her for all these reasons of big and little consequence. They hated her pale snow face, her waiting silence, her thinness, and her possible future. (Page 3, Paragraph 2). This quote is an example of third person omniscient narration because the narrator provides the reader with access into the emotions, thoughts and feelings of all of the characters, not just the main character of Margot. : (fill in your answer here) (5 points per device x 3 = 15 points):

Smiles: “the children are pressed to each other like so many roses, so many weeds, intermixed peering out for a look at the hidden sun” through the window.” This is an example of the use of simile because the author gives a description of the children by using “like” and also gives the readers an optimistic view to know if the students are going to see the sun in Venus. Metaphor “sun is a flower that blooms for just an hour” and “the endless shaking down of clear bead necklaces on the roof.” These two quotes show evidence of the use of metaphor to describe the brief, brilliant and joyful showing of the sun and how the rain is battering. Foreshadowing “They edged away from her, they would not look at her. She felt them go away. And this was because she would play no games with them …. If they tagged her and ran, she stood blinking after them and did not follow” and “There was talk that her father and mother were taking her back to Earth next year. … And so, the children hated her for all these reasons of big and little consequence. They hated her pale snow face, her waiting silence, her thinness, and her possible future”. This shows as evidence of foreshadowing because it gives the reader a hint earlier in the story at what is going to happen later. In this story this gives a hint that Margot is going to be locked in the closet by the children in her class and miss the sun coming out....
