Pathophysiology Related to Client Problem When there is inadequate amount of circulating t3/4 hormones which leads to decreased metabolic rate that affects all the body systems.

Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Long drug therapy needed and shouldn't be stopped abruptly. Diet should be low calories, adequate amount of iodine, selenium, and zinc.

Female, older than 60 years, exposure to radiation in the neck, prior thyroid surgery, inadequate iodine intake, autoimmune disease Laboratory Tests

Early findings include: irritability, fatigue, cold intolerance, constipation, weight gain, depression Late findings include: decreased heart rate, respiration rate, blood pressure, dysarrhythmias, dry skin, pleural effusion

Diagnostic Procedures

Level of T3, T4, TSH, thyroid antibodies, Cholesterol, hbg, hct, rbc

-Xray, CT scan, MRI, radioisotopes can, sinus bradycardia, ST deviations

PATIENT-CENTERED CARE

Nursing Care Monitoring cardiac changes, LOC, medication administrations Keep warm with extra clothing and blankets

Therapeutic Procedures -Make sure the levothyroxine is taken as directed -Encourage to verbalize concerns if any
