Essay American society søndag 3. oktober 2021 07:37

In this this essay I am going to discuss to what extent Asian and black American minorities experience full equality in the US. I am going to find different arguments to which extent they actually are experiencing full equality or not. The reason why I want to discuss this is because I think it is an interesting topic. The African American Struggle for Equality

African American were brought to America as slaves from 1600s to work at cotton plantation, back then they were not able to vote and they were segregated from the white (PP). African Americans were often very poor and many could not read and write, because southern states made it illegal to teach slaves to read and write. In fact, only 5 % of black could read and wirte in the beginning of Civil War (American Government). Because of their illiteracy and poor economy many African americans were unable to vote. That meant that they could not vote for leaders to represent them and their ideas, and also support their interests. However, it was not until the Civil Rights movement came about that African Americans were freed from slavery, able to vote and able to attend public schools etc( Hamlin Recebba, 2021). The struggle for equal treatment continues for african Americans African Americans are still facing discrimination the American society. They are not living in the same community as the white, that means that they still live in communities that their ancestors lived in, which is predominantly black (American government,2021). The reason why they still live in poor neighboorhoods is because of lack of high-paying jobs and continuing racisim. Today the publiv scools in America are desegregated by law, but it in reality school segregation continuous. 69,2 % of young African Americans still attend schools that almost entirely consist of students of color. That means that they attend schools where majority of students are black, Hispanic, Asian, or American Indian. Seven in 10 black (72,4%) students are attending high-poverty school, compared with the white students were 31,3% attend high-povery schools. The lack of improvement in integrating schools for black children, leads to poorer academic results, widens performance gaps between white and black students, makes it more likely for black students to attend high poverty schools, as well as reducing their opportunity of integration and equal oppornuintties now as well as in their future ( Garcia, E. 2020). The fact that African Americans attend schools that are predominantly black put the black children behind academically (Garcia, E., 2020). The performance gap between black and white students, creates dfferent career prospects for them. So that means to school segregation continuous to have a bad influence over them that last for a long time.
