There are many ways that Lilly has influenced me… Firstly, Lilly is compassionate, loving, caring, and selfless; these qualities are evident in her ME to WE trip to Kenya. In Kenya, she visited an all girls school and the mamas. The mamas make rafiki bracelets as a source of income so that their girls have the opportunity to go to school. While in Kenya, Lilly made a rafiki bracelet called, “Girl Love”, and a part of the proceeds from it goes towards the girl’s education. Fun fact, did you know rafiki is Swahili for “friend”? This trip has inspired me because it led me to apply for the Leadership Program at Algonquin College; I knew that this program was my first step towards greater things. Then when I volunteered at WE Day, they showed Lilly’s video about going to Kenya and that is something I very much wish to do now. This one trip Lilly did changed so many people’s lives and has inspired youth to go out and create change not only locally, but globally as well.

Secondly, Lilly has created a revolutionary campaign called, “Girl Love”, which promotes ending girl on girl hate and loving one another. Each episode she films features a different celebrity and they talk about the campaign and how it is great to have. The Girl Love campaign is one of the bigger projects Lilly has created and it means a lot to her because she is passionate about everyone loving each other and getting along peacefully. This campaign is inspiring to me because I continue to witness a lot of girls tearing each other down. Sometimes I find myself doing it, but then I stop when I remember what Lilly has taught me. Hating on one another does not do any justice, it only makes the situation worse. Learning to love one another removes the competition between girls and goes to show we are not different from one another.

Thirdly, Lilly is the definition of perseverance and determination. Even though she has struggled with mental health issues, that has not stopped her from reaching out and helping others back up onto their feet. The support she has provided, and continues to provide, proves that she cares very much for others4. These qualities are evident in her day to day life; if Lilly is behind on posting a video, she is determined to post it immediately because she wants her fans to enjoy what she has made for them. This inspires me because in my difficult times, I turn to Lilly for comfort and words of praise so that I know I am capable of over coming the obstacle in my way. Just knowing that she will be supporting me indirectly makes me feel a lot better, and encourages me tob do the same for others.

Additionally, Lilly uses her platform for good and does not abuse the power she has. Even though Lilly gets paid to attend events, get pictures taken, and so on, she stays so down to earth and humble. It is never about the money or fame, but about the people who look up to her. She is passionate about changing youth’s lives, especially when

given the opportunity to speak at WE Day. Lilly uses her platform to bring light to issues no one knows a lot about, and she never takes anything for granted. It is always about the fans and will always be about the fans. Whenever Lilly accepts an award she has won, she always thanks her family, friends, and fans because it is about everyone, not just her. This is inspiring to me because sometimes people let the fame go to their heads and they become over ruled by it. Lilly on the other hand has been able to keep a level head, and will continue to do so because of the person she is. Being down to earth and humble are two qualities I am striving to achieve because they truly do make a difference not only in your life, but others too.

Lastly, Lilly is a very motivational person because she always provides a meaningful and positive message at the end of every one of her videos. These are feel good messages that give viewers a confidence boost and reminder that they can achieve anything they put their minds to. She is always encouraging people to do better and push through the hard times, knowing it is worth it in the end. This is inspiring to me because Lilly motivates me everyday to get up and conquer the day. She also motivated me to write this presentation. When Lilly motivates me, it makes me feel good because I know that she will always be there for me when I need a little push towards accomplishing something.

Overall, each of these ways, and many more, have inspired me positively.

As a result of knowing about Lilly, I have changed greatly, and I continue to change everyday. Before knowing about Lilly, I wasn’t too happy with where I was in my life and I didn’t see much of a point in doing certain things, but she changed that for me. I am becoming more selfless and aware about the current issues around the world, especially regarding girls accessing education. I feel inspired to do good and help those everywhere. I want to be able to become an influential person because I want to help change lives, no matter how difficult the task seems. I am also slowly integrating small acts of kindness into my life because a small action goes a long way, especially for those who do not have a lot of support. I try not to take anything for granted nowadays and I am learning to be thankful for everything I have. I want to be able to live out all the qualities Lilly has shown to me each day. In conclusion, Lilly has demonstrated an incredibly amount of leadership, compassion, and confidence through everything she has done and continues to do. She is always striving for greater things and is always improving herself. I hope to one day become as influential as her because it truly does impact people’s lives.
