IRON JAWED ANGLES 2

Analysis of Iron Jawed Angels Iron Jawed Angels is a moving film, which highlights how Lucy Burns and Alice Paul fought for female suffrage in America. The movie showcases the trials which these two ladies had to endure, from the rivalry within the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) as well as from the society and in the political sphere. Angels narrate the story of Alice Paul, one of the leading women to arrange a picket line at the White House. Due to her determination in the fight for women's suffrage, historians gave her much of the credit for its attainment. Pressures between the new suffragists and veteran activists are at the core of this film. Alice and Lucy signify a youthful essential wing of the movement to fight for women's suffrage that counters the more old-fashioned Lois Smith and Anjelica Huston. These conservative ladies, Smith and Huston are presented as arrogant, stuffy and old-fashioned as likened to the impatient, optimistic and playful Alice and Lucy who initiates public riots and condemn the veteran activists of women’s suffrage in the US. Alice is however portrayed as a complicated character. The filmmakers do not represent her as a saint or an extraordinary individual. They demonstrate her to be hindered by poor individual skills as well as failure to appreciate her supporters' determinations. The film adopts colorful images for Lucy and Alice and white and black colors for the old-fashioned activists such as Smith and Huston. This style aims to separate the new suffragists from the traditional activists for female suffrage.

IRON JAWED ANGLES 3 Even though the moviemakers strive to change the portrayal of the suffragists, the storyline is grounded on the actual successes and obstacles of the campaign’s final times. For a viewer who is new to the history of women in the US, the firm conveys very severe obstacles to the female’s political involvement as well as social justice. When the new suffragists are bodily assaulted as they demonstrate calmly, the actual hostility toward female suffrage is portrayed alive. Further, the movie comprises a distressing depiction of Alice’s prison encounter, demonstrating her psychoanalyzed in the psychological ward and aggressively force-fed following the start of a hunger strike. The movie also recognizes the racial tensions among the white suffragists and the Black Americans activists, portraying the conflict between Ida Wells and Alice. In a generation when numerous youthful ladies resist the feminist label, the movie invites them to link with women who are sexually vibrant, autonomous, young and bodily enticing. However, this stress on personality and beauty would certainly distract the new suffragists, who would perceive these characters to be very extraneous. Also, this technique irritates historians of sex who have been determined to describe the suffragists as serious political characters and to incorporate them in the American historical sphere. By observing the film from a critical perspective, it could be a valuable instrument for teaching learners about popular culture and history of women in American. Every individual who is irritated by second-class nationality ought to watch this moving movie since it narrates

IRON JAWED ANGLES 4 how real persons make an actual difference even without having the capacity to vote.
