Antibiotic Resistance Case Study:Part III - Restoring susceptibility 7. How effective was the FtsZ inhibitor alone? Imipenem alone? FtsZ inhibitor and Imipenem on their own are not highly effective as the number of colonies were still large in comparison to the control. 8. How effective was the combination of the inhibitor and the -lactam antibiotic? The combination of the inhibitor and the -lactam antibiotic was highly effective; there were a decrease in the number of colonies. 9. How would you explain these results? Plates seen to have FtsZ inhibitor and Imipenem had similar colony numbers as the control as opposed to the two together. Meaning FtsZ inhibitor and Imipenem show less resistance together than apart. 10. What questions would you pursue next? What other -lactam antibiotics and inhibitors can be used in conjunction to limit colony growth? Can more than one inhibitor be used? Can the combination be used to limit resistance of other diseases?...
