A Twelve to Fifteen Word Title Goes Here and Includes the Contention of Essay/Report (Exactly as it appears on the Title Page with no space between the title and the first line of your report) This is where the body of your paper begins; remember to indent the first line of each new paragraph. This is first section is the introduction to your paper, the introduction should set the scene for the essay, explain what problem you are addressing, why it is important and provide referenced key definitions. It also provides an outline of what will be discussed in the body of the essay, the contention of the essay and hint at the conclusion. In an essay the introduction does not have a separate heading The main body paragraphs of the essay follow directly on from the introduction. Body paragraphs each contain a main theme (specific field of literature/idea/type of evidence) you want to raise in order to convince your reader of your scientifically supported contention. Each body paragraph should include an introductory sentence to highlight the relevance of the paragraph, followed by summarised details of experimental research, that provide evidence for the point you want to make. Use your completed Journal Article Templates and the Minor and Major Essay General Instructions to guide you on what details to include and remember to highlight the strength or weakness of the information being discussed. This analysis is followed by a concluding sentence that links the evidence presented to the argument being made, and leading into the next idea you want to raise in the following body paragraph. The conlcusion of your essay needs to tie together all of the arguments/points you have made. It should then make a final statement as to the outcome of your argument that should be clearly in context with the information presented in the body of the essay.

The above is an example of how you would reference a book, please remember to delete this from the reference list of your submitted essay. To review guidelines for citations of articles that you have read in text and how to list them in the References section at the end of the essay, refer to the APA manual, APA Style Central, Academic Referencing Tool and Academic Referencing Modules, the FSTE First Year Survival Guide, or the other resources discussed in class. It is ok to google APA format questions but remember to ensure that you are looking at 6th edition APA as it is the latest edition and the only version accepted in the marking criteria. Take note of the "hanging indent" style for references. The easiest way to create hanging indents is to type your references without worrying about indentation and when you are finished, select all the references at once, right click, select ‘Paragraph’ and then select ‘Hanging’ from the dropdown menu under Special in the Indentation section. Click Ok. Make sure when you are selecting your reference list, that you do not accidentally select the whole document. On p. 189, the 6th ed. manual says “We recommend that when DOIs are available, you include them”—so if you can’t find it, that’s ok. You will have noticed that APA format is quite detailed and has a number or rules to follow. You should ensure that you check your APA format using the resources discussed in class prior to the final submission of your essay....
