For this assignment, you will examine positions and take a side in the debate about the government's role in health care. You will do this by completing the following steps:

1. Analyze: Examine opposing positions in the debate about the government's role in health care and the future of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). 2. Write: Take and defend a position in the health care debate.

To get the best grade possible, follow the instructions in the assignment closely and answer all the questions completely. This assignment is worth 20 points.

Answer these questions. This section is worth 8 points.

1. Why do some liberals think the ACA did not go far enough? (2 points)

Some liberals think that the ACA did not go far enough in securing Americans and reducing health costs. The law has brought a lot of good things, but if we consider that 5300 members of Congress have registered 3300 lobbyists for health care, and more spent on preparing the law itself, than for some campaigns for presidential elections. Therefore, not a small part of this law appears to have been written by foreign private insurance industry or pharmaceutical industry. They also think that they didn't go far enough to address the US health crisis.

2. What do liberal critics of the ACA want to happen in the future? (2 points)

They want the ACA to extend care over some higher annual income earning families and for it to allow for people to keep their insurance plans.

3. What do conservatives think of the ACA? (2 points)

Conservatives generally do not like the ACA. Although they don't think that it doesn't fix the healthcare system, but don't like how the government has a place in the private marketplace where people can pay for them or not.

4. What do conservative critics of the ACA want to happen in the future? (2 points)

The conservatives think negatively of it and want the states to have more independence with healthcare. They want the ACA to be restricted to the elderly and want freedom in the choice of healthcare.

You will now write an argumentative essay based on this prompt. Your essay should be two to three paragraphs in length. This portion of the assignment is worth 12 points.

Should Congress have passed the Affordable Care Act (ACA)? If so, why? If not, what other type of act, if any, should Congress have passed instead?

Whatever position you take, be sure to state a clear claim and provide supporting evidence to back it up. You should also address the opposition by responding to potential objections to your position.

In my opinion Congress should have passed the Affordable Care Act. Although conservatives argue that having the government in a private marketplace is bad, I still believe that the ACA is good and makes healthcare open to everyone.

The Affordable Care Act provides every citizen with some sort of insurance that can be used by all citizens to take care of their health problems with relatively low or no cost at all. Although some argue that having the government in a private marketplace is bad because they can control it without anyone’s consent and what not. However, the ACA allows for all citizens to be taken care of their health problems. There are those who want the ACA to be restricted to the elderly and want freedom in the choice of healthcare. But in my opinion I disagree because we wouldn't want free healthcare. Yes, the ACA may affect our taxes but we know that the money is being used for something greater that benefits all Americans.

I believe that both health care and free education is crucial for the nation to ensure that we could obtain the best quality of human resources as possible which would help us generate more productivity in our economy....
