Judgment Before Osiris Formal Analysis In Judgment Before Osiris, the painting is much longer than it is tall. In addition, it is almost broken up into two registers with a row of figures sitting at the top of the image. The lack of color is very consistent with the other artwork I’ve seen from Ancient Egypt, and while the painting overall lacks depth for the most part, the use of white helps give it some sort of depth to help make it more visually pleasing. Who I would assume to be Osiris based on the title of the painting appears to be larger than the other figures seeing as he as seated he is the same height (if not taller) than the figures standing around him. This of course shows that he is the most important figure in the image. I would assume that this would have something to do with the afterlife, as the afterlife was incredibly important to the Ancient Egyptians and from what I know, they depicted it quite often in their artwork. While my knowledge of Ancient Egypt it limited, I do know that Osiris is the Egyptian God of the afterlife, which would back up my theory. I also noticed that the figure that is leading the person to Osiris is holding something in their hand that all of the figures towards the top half of the painting are all holding as well. This repetition shows the importance of that object, though I’m not sure what exactly this object represents....
