Pg. 62-63 Cinnie’s Autobiography Birth: Born in Sacramento, California 1956. Family: Family is all deaf. Has two brothers, I am second child. School: Five years, she enrolled at Deaf school in California. Senior year, took exams and passed. First college: After graduation, I went to Gallaudet.During the junior year, I realize I’m deaf my entire life. Wanted to see the hearing world. Second college: Decided to leave Gallaudet and go back to California. Went to different school where I relied on sign language interpreters. Teachers at Gallaudet communicated directly with us. Peace Corps: I was offered job in Philippines, I accept it. I try to persuade my boyfriend to come, but he didn’t come. I was fine with it. In spring of 1979, I start to work in a Deaf school in the Philippines. Two years later, boyfriend joins me in Peace Corps, I extended my stay. After the two years, the two of us than traveled. Travels after Peace Corps: We flew to Thailand first, stayed two weeks. Then traveled to India, stayed four days, then Italy for two weeks. After Italy, we flew to Paris, then took train to Austria, Germany, Holland, Brussels, then back to Paris where we then went to England to fly back to America. First job back in US: I look for position as a teacher at the American school for Deaf. Worked there for 6 months. Wedding: Summer of 1983, boyfriend and I get married in California and then move out there.\ Jobs in California: Husband gets job at a Deaf school. I teach ASL at college in evenings, in the daytime, I taught Deaf and blind people. Two years later I leave my job to teach job skills to Deaf people. Held that job for a year, Agency then said I was laid off. Graduate school: Decided to attend the master’s program for deaf education in San Francisco for three years. Husband’s career change: Husband left job at school to work for Deaf publishing company. Current plans: Company relocates to San Diego. I finished my studies and was pregnant. We both decide to move to San Diego, we buy as house and the baby is expected in October.
