Assignment-1 Course: Information Systems (SCM100-78) Q1) Why are information systems so essential for running and managing a business today? Ans: Information systems are important for business today because to be successful in today’s world business should analyze their past data and also should have a quick reach of any data from their record if needed in future. A good information system also helps in creating future strategies by organizing past records. Customer demand is also changing rapidly with changing trends so to survive in the market, the business has to quickly adopt the new trends and this is where a good information system helps. Six reasons why information system is important: 1) Helps in improving efficiency. 2) Helps in creating new ideas for the product or services. 3) With consistency in work, helps in creating trust with the customers. 4) Helps in instant decision-making for the heads of the business. 5) It decreases the workload. 6) And lastly business gets a competitive advantage. Q2) What exactly is an information system? How does it work? What are its management, organization, and technology components? Ans: An information system is a collection of various components and tools within an organization in order to find, process, store and synthesize information out of the data. The insights generated from the information systems are used to support the decision-making process, coordination amongst various functions and visualization of problems which helps managers in coming up with solutions and faster product development. Management:- Management support is vital for all information systems management. Their support in the area of investment, how to use reliable information is very critical. It involves issues such as training, job attitudes and management behaviour. Organization:- Collaborative support in terms of collaboration is very much needed for all information systems and involves issues like the organization’s hierarchy, functional specialties, business processes, culture. Technology:- The technology component refers to the software and hardware which are necessary in order to process and propagate the information within the organization. Q3) How do systems serve the different management groups in a business? Ans: Any organization has multiple management levels that focus on diverse aspects, such as operational, tactical, and strategic. Business systems need to be designed and aligned to address priorities and decision-making across different business groups. We can categorize them into two groups: 1. Transaction Processing Systems(TPS) : The transaction processing systems are operating systems that focus on operational aspects such as:  Sales  Receipts  Payroll  Cashflow  Inventory TPS are automated systems that perform and record daily operational transactions necessary to conduct business. Managers utilize TPS to perform a health check of internal activities as well as compare with external activities. TPS is central to any business, and any systems outage can completely halt the firm’s operations. 2. Business Intelligence Systems(BIS) : Business Intelligence Systems provide information across all levels of managementoperational, tactical, and strategic. They provide the information required to monitor and control business as well as predict future performance. Management Information Systems (MIS) uses TPS information to provide an overview of the company’s operations. Decision Support Systems (DSS) focuses on unique and dynamic issues to provide the necessary guidance for management to make the right decisions. DSS utilizes information from both TPS and MIS, along with information from external sources such as competition and markets. Executive Support Systems (ESS) help management with a non-routine decision and provide quick statical data that are applied to the decision-making process. Q4) How do systems that link the enterprise improve organizational performance? Ans: We know that this modern era is full of competition in every aspect. Whatever field you choose, there is competition in it, so in organizations as well. Every successful organization focuses on the efficient execution of processes and the rest of other services. Enterprise is a way that provides a company with a strong view of its operations. It allows a company to exchange information among others efficiently. The organization operates relating to increasing and global environment the success of the organization is efficient that has been a focus to execute of business processes the main efficient is speed to market and customer service. The main importance for a business or an organization is different functional levels and business units. In an organization the Enterprise applications allow to exchange of information among functional areas, units of business, customers and also suppliers.

Q5) Why are systems for collaboration and social business so important, and what technologies do they use? Ans: Collaboration refers to the act of working together with each other to be able to reach a team or organization's goals. Each company in the modern era realizes the importance of collaboration in order to be able to achieve its goals. Collaboration is important in any business field. It is a way to achieve the goals by working together. All the employees in a company are given tasks to achieve a goal. This enhances the work and makes it easier for the company to get the projects done at the right time. It is always been efficient that group work produces results faster than individual work. •Enhanced Productivity can be realized by collaboration and social business models. A team can always put in more ideas and people working in collaboration with each other can always correct each other and bring more ideas to the table

• Better Communication allows for no bottlenecks to be in place and allows free flow and easy communication in a matter of seconds. Platforms such as Skype and others are widely used by companies in order to transmit data and interact on a real-time basis. Global Workforce can exist with collaboration and social business. It allows for people across the globe to connect with each other and a company is benefitted largely. • Better pool of Resources and Manpower exists because of collaboration and social business. This can extend the boundaries of a country and can be located in any part of the world and still be able to work efficiently. • Cost Reduction and Higher Profits are known to be achieved in companies that allow free collaboration to take place and which allow social business models to drive internal and external communication within or with customers or people who would be interested to work with a company.
