1. The ancient Maya were united by belief systems, cultural practices that included a distinct architectural style, and the writing system. They were also joined by political interaction in the form of warfare and intermarriage. 2. Logo-syllabic, Meaning that it consists of pictorial symbols or glyphs that represent either entire words or syllables. It is the only prehispanic writing system of Mesoamerica. 3. The Maya were organized into small independent kingdoms. Each city-state was ruled by a divine Lord who controlled territory around the capital city and frequently fought with neighboring states for preeminence. 4. The mirror bearer is rare because it is made out of wood, and its place of origin was very humid. Others like this wooden sculpture from the regions surviving until the present day are slim to none. 5. The mirrors were made of mosaic or pyrite. 6. In ancient times was used for posing and adjusting themselves. It was also believed to be used as a portal or for religious use. Guiding decisions in the Royal Court was also a use of the mirror. 7. Dwarfs were thought of as special people. 8. It symbolizes honoring the King, used as a sign of deference to the ruler. 9. Represents a mosaic made of jade or greenstone that shows the face of a person or a deite. 10. The color would have been red. 11. Likely found in a royal tomb in Guatemala in a sealed dry environment, thus preserving it. The current holders of the artifact don’t know why exactly where it was found....
