How to handle your decision-making process....

Description

1 BUS 137 Jun 7, 2020 My Decision-Making Process Fortunately and unfortunately, I have not had to make any critical decisions that required me to go through all the six steps of rational decision-making steps. However, I had many thoughts running through my head in 2019 when it was time for me to purchase the 2018 iPad Pro 12.9” 256GB. It was not as tough as it should have been since I had saved the $1,700 just for it (with a keyboard case and an Apple Pencil). Nevertheless, when it was time to make the purchase, my mind started showing me all these good things I could do with the money, but I was still able to defeat it. I will break down how I used some of the six steps of the rational decision-making process as follows: 1. Identify the problem: I am an artist, I draw, thus I needed a tablet I could draw on digitally but also something I am comfortable with. Also, I always wanted to own an iPad Pro as it is my favorite tablet and arguably the best in its class. 2. Establish Decision Criteria: Cost: I had calculated the cost of the device before I started saving, so I was ready for that. Usability: the device was going to be mainly for drawing but also browsing and doing all other cool things iPads can do, thus it was a big thing for me as an artist and tech lover. Performance: The iPad has the most arguably smooth and fast operating system and user interface in its class, the price was worth it. 3. Weigh Decision Criteria: This is a step I did not consider throughout the process. 4. Generate Alternatives: There were many alternatives to choose from. Just for fun since the iPad was my favorite tablet, I did research specifically on how responsive and smooth

2 the drawing experience on the iPad is like compared to its competitors and I was mostly satisfied with the iPad’s results. 5. Evaluate Alternatives: I did not get this far before purchasing the tablet since the iPad was my favorite tablet and it has great functionality when it comes to drawing on its screen. 6. Select the Best Alternative: Another step I did not get to. The most decisions I make are purchasing decisions and I usually fall between the Optimizing vs. Satisficing decision-making style. Most of the times optimizing is the style I use, and sometimes I find myself using both styles for the same decision and overall, I am satisfied 98 percent of the times. However, these styles are not the best choices when making critical decisions especially if the decisions affect a group of people. Therefore, I would consider using the six steps rational decision-making process in the future as it offers more critical steps to consider before making final decisions. Conclusively, in the role of a business leader, decision making is important because being able to make decisions and adhere to them is the foundation of good leadership. Decision making is a continuous procedure in each business; big or small. Possessing critical thinking skills permits one to find out the issue and concoct an answer that is gainful to the organization and its representatives....
