Summary

ATI quiz and review questions for nurse leader ship and ms. zichsberg class for any nursing student...

Description

1. The first topic that I reviewed from the ATI quiz was SBAR. I used the “Nursing Leadership and Management: for patient safety and quality care” text by Murry. The section it is under is “Types of Communication in A Health-Care Environment.” The page number is 209. This text gave a good job of explaining SBAR and what you would use it for. SBAR is a communication tool meant to simplify communication by framing it in the following manner, a concise statement of the problem, pertinent and brief information related to the situation, analysis and considerations of options- what the nurse found or thinks, and action recommended- what the nurse wants. This text also has a good table to help explain SBAR better (table 8-1) which I used to answer some of the application questions on ATI. The second topic that I reviewed from ATI quiz was lateral communication. I used the “Nursing Leadership and Management: for patient safety and quality care” text by Murry. The section it is under is “Types of Communication in A Health-Care Environment.” The page number is 201. Lateral communication is this sharing of information among nurse leaders and managers or other staff at the same level. Examples of lateral communication are coordination between units and services, information sharing, problem-solving, and conflict management. The ATI questions was majority application based. So, it was good to understand which type of communication was going on within the interpersonal teams. 2. One takeaway learning that I will remember is grapevine communication. Grapevine communication is informal communication. It flows quickly and haphazardly at all levels of the organization and becomes more and more distorted as it moves along. This type of communication travels in multiple directions and can carry both positive and negative explanation. Nurse leaders and managers must monitor the grapevine and intervene quickly to provide accurate information to avert unrest and job dissatisfaction among employees....
