Pathophysiology Related to Client Problem Heart Failure occurs when the heart muscle is unable to pump effectively. The heart is unable to maintain adequate circulation to the tissues.
Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Maintain an exercise routine. Consume a low sodium diet. Smoking cessation Follow medication regimen.

Expected Findings
HTN, CAD, MI, COPD, infection or inflammation of the heart, increased metabolic needs, septicemia, anemia, prolonged use of alcohol, heredity.
Laboratory Tests B-type natriuretic peptide
Dyspnea, fatigue, S3 heart sounds, cough, crackles, frothy sputum, altered mental status, jugular vein distention, polyuria, weight gain.
Diagnostic Procedures Hemodynamic monitoring, Ultrasound (to view ejection fraction), TEE, CXR, ECG.
PATIENT-CENTERED CARE
Nursing Care Monitor daily weight and I&O. Administer oxygen as prescribed. Monitor vital signs. Position client to maximize ventilation. Encourage bed rest until stable.
