Description

Commands: Command + 3 = Command palette (map new keyboard shortcuts; be sure to close before resuming editing) Command + S = Save Command + Y = New Video track Command + U = New Audio track Command + A = Turn on all tracks Command + K = Make tracks larger Command + L = Make tracks smaller Command + Option + K = Make waveform larger Command + Option + L = Make waveform smaller Command + Shift + A = Turn off all tracks Command + Shift + N = New Sequence (in timeline window) Command + Shift + F = Fullscreen (in playback window) (Clicking returns to Avid) Command + Shift + I = Import Command + Shift + O = Export

The Timeline and Playback: Spacebar = Stop playback (panic button)

J = Back (easy to find; groove on the bottom of the key) K = Stop L = Forward

The more times you tap J or L, the faster playback gets Z = Lift X = Cut (Ripple delete; affects sync) C = Useless V = Insert (moves clip to selected time) B = Overwrite (replaces old clip with the new clip) I + O + Z = Select and lift a section

I = In point O = Out point Home = Return to the start of a clip or sequence Up and Down arrows = Zoom in and out on the timeline Left and Right arrows = Move indicator left and right on the timeline G = Deselect

E = In point R = Out point T = Marks between the nearest cuts on the activated tracks F = Bumps to the nearest cut (when no out point is set) Space = Stops playback (does not play) Q = Jump to the in point (as set by E) W = Jump to the out point (as set by R) D = Eliminate in point

F = Eliminate out point H = Restore original workspace windows Y = Opens Effects Editing Workspace P = Extend

\ = Add transition ‘ = Add keyframe

F2 = Motion effect editor F3 = Toggles yellow arrow F4 = Toggles red arrow F5 = Match frame F6 = Find bin F7 = Toggles waveform F8 = Toggles volume lines

Transitions: Tab = Quick transition [ = Render effect ] = Remove effect

Titles and Typography: Option + Left Arrow or Right Arrow = adjusts kearning between two characters

Option + Shift + 5 = Sets fi text Option + Shift + 6 = Sets fl text Option + Semicolon = Sets ellipse text (... ; treat as a single character)

General Tips: Always keep your left hand on the keyboard and your right hand on the mouse Closing the project folder in the workspace (the one with the master list of bins) will allow you to open a different project without having to restart Avid Holding down Command will snap a clip to the nearest other clip Shift + Click on the track lights will turn them on/off (faster to use Command + A and Command + Shift + A) Hitting Control twice will bring up the clip duration dialogue in the preview window Use the numbpad to get a specific clip duration from the preview monitor to the timeline (useful for titles etc.) (mark in, use + on the numbpad, type duration on the numbpad, mark out, use B to add to the timeline) The + and - keys can be used to navigate the duration dialogue to get to specific frames (however, this always adds one frame; ie. if you want 10 seconds of a clip the actual timecode to input is 00:09:23) T then E then X trims the end of a clip T then R then X trims the start of a clip...
