4: What about Hebrew makes it possible that Mulek might be a shortened version of the name “Malchiah/Malkiyahu”?  “The name Mulek is not found in the King James Version of the Bible. Still, some Latter-day Saint scholars have proposed that Mulek is a hypocoristic (abbreviated or shortened) form of Malchiah/Malkiyahu, or a form of this name that dropped the divine name (yhw) element, leaving only mlk (meaning "king").3 (Hebrew during the time of Nephi and Lehi was written without vowels.) If the Bible's Malchiah is the same person as the Book of Mormon's Mulek, then the stamp seal belonging to Malkiyahu would lend independent credibility to the historical existence of Mulek.” 5: What have bible students assumed about Nebuchadnezzar?  That he executed all of Zedekiah’s sons KnoWhy # 171: Why Did Mormon Mention Hagoth? 1: How many men left Zarahemla for the land northward?  5,400 men, with their wives and children 2: What happened to the first ship that Hagoth built?  It sailed northward and returned with many Nephites, then set out again with many people and provisions, and was never heard of more. “We suppose that they were drowned in the depths of the sea” 3: How many migrations did Mormon note during the specified years?  At least 5, three by sea, two by land, and all of them “northward” 4: What were the two kinds of migrations?  By Land  By Sea 5: What thematic message do these migrations convey in the Book of Mormon?  That even among the Nephites, the scattering of Israel was still taking place 6: What do these migrations suggest about Nephite civilization?  “The fact that ships were being built at all and that Nephites were feeling a need to relocate suggests that population growth and industry were being restored after the lengthy war between the Nephites and the Lamanites” 7: How did expansion and prosperity effect the Nephites during this time period?  They helped pave the way for increasing social complexity and eventual instability KnoWhy #174: When Did Cement Become Common in Ancient America?

1: Why did Nephite dissenters in the land northward start building with cement?  They traveled to an exceedingly great distance into the land northward, where they found large bodies of water and many rivers. There was “little timber” in the region, and these people “became exceedingly expert in the working of cement” 2: What was ancient American cement made out of?  Limestone rubble and lime-rich mud 3: Why did David S. Hyman believe that there must have been cement older than his sample of 1st century AD cement?  Because they were so technically well advanced that he believed there must have been earlier, less developed forms 4: According to the scholars Coe and Houston, when was there an “explosion” of cement architecture?  Around 100 B.C. 5: What does this example teach us about how to approach seeming anachronisms in the Book of Mormon?  “While other examples of alleged anachronisms have revealed the value in being patient and waiting for new light from archaeology, this example teaches another kind of lesson: sometimes, even we...
