Background of P Padini adini Padini Holdings Berhad is a Malaysia-based investment holding company which stocks are listed on Bursa Malaysia (MYX) under ticket 7052. The vision of Padini Holdings Berhad is to be the best fashion company ever. The company offers many kinds of products such as both men’s and ladies shoes and accessories, ancillary products, garments, children’s garments, maternity wear, and accessories through various subsidiaries to the customer for purchasing. All of these products will be exported to mainly Southeast Asian and The Middle East countries. Moreover, there have eight unique and special brands like as PDI, PADINI, PADINI Authentics, P & CO, Miki, Seed, Vincci and Vincci Accessories under Padini Holdings Berhad. But, in these kinds of brands, Padini is most prominent brand in the company. Padini Holdings Berhad’s encapsulated postscript (EPS) is growing every year and it is commonly known as dead fish stocks (rarely ups and downs), but the company has a good management for introducing a new business concept such as concept store. Furthermore, the products are produced by Padini Holdings Berhad are sold in retail flagship stores and concept stores which concept is about houses all Padini Holdings brands under one-stop-shopping (one roof). In 1971, Padini started an operation as Hwayo Garments Manufacturers Company. The company is a sole proprietorship which was entered in clothing manufacturing ladies garments and even wholesaling. The company was established a pioneer brand, PADINI and involved the retail industry in 1975. Home Stores Sdn Bhd was begun as a holding all the companies entered in the Group’s retail, wholesale and manufacturing business at 1991. One year later, it was renamed to Padini Holdings. In 1995, it was converted to a public company limited by shares and named with Padini Holdings Berhad and listed on the Second Board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (Bursa Malaysia) in 2004. Many brands were launched in the following decades. In 1999, Padini Holdings Berhad launches first outlets in Johor Bahru City Square, Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Nowadays, its stores and outlets are scattered all around the country in Malaysia. In 2009, Padini was recognized as one of Malaysia’s Top 30 Most Valuable Brands on account of PADINI valued by Interbrand at RM 245 million and its value increase to RM 260 million in 2012. In April 2016, Padini was showcasing the latest fashion series in Fashion Week that Hunza Properties Berhad was held at Gurney Paragon Mall, Penang. Besides, PADINI brand which was launched by Padini Holdings Berhad that focus on trendy and form-fitting workwear looks. In addition, PADINI brand is a kind of monopolistic competition. Padini is a fashion company which produces the fashion product to the

customer. Nowadays, many companies in the same field were established and increase their size in order to competitively fit. There has most company now is equally big in terms of the size of Padini. When companies are equal size, they will compete for the same resources such as brand image, customers’ loyalty, market share and another factor. This would result in a high rivalry and a threat for Padini. There are many producers offer products that are similar in the same market but PADINI brand is differentiated from one another such as quality and hence are not perfect substitutes. In other words, many competitors such as HM, Uniqlo, Superdoss, F.O.S and Ad Jeans were offering similar products with PADINI brands to compete in the same field of the market. But, Padini can survive in the market because its brand acquired a large amount of market share after established for a long time (1971). Moreover, Padini brand has to compete with aggressive strategies such as opening more outlets, create trendier and new styles and designs to capture customers’ attention. For Padini, the cost of switching is low because Padini has the same customer base as its competitors. The customer will only have to compare the prices of competitors’ clothing and services offered and the styles of the clothing season. All of these will increases the rivalry among competitors and Padini will never stop to compete and ensure that they make a sale and customers will loyalty to their product due to the trendy clothing styles. More specifically, Padini always sensitive to their customer’s ever changing trend to satisfy their needs. The products were offered by Padini are differentiated, thus customers aren’t able to find the same style and instead have to buy from Padini even if the price is moderately high. Padini will succeed in the market because they are very aggressive in their advertising for comparing with competitors. Its advertising and promotions help Padini for building a brand image. This incepts a strong image in the customer’s mind that it is a brand of great value and affordable for them. In addition, Padini is always one of the tops of the few brand in the customer’s list when they want to purchase their clothes especially formal clothes. Padini often implements a new concept diversely in the apparel industry in order to be unpredictable and stand out from its competitors....
