Description

Zack O’Neil Becoming A Learner Picture:

Explanation: For my Becoming A Learner project I decided to make my three objects be a Subway cup, a psychology textbook and my wallet. I chose these objects because I am learning in all these areas of my life. I chose the psychology book because I am currently double majoring in both psychology and sociology. Therefore, I am clearly devoting a lot of time and energy into learning those concepts so I can have a future in the topics. I put my wallet into the mix because I am learning now more than ever how to manage my money better which I feel is an essential skill that I will need to have for the rest of my life. I also put the Subway cup there because I’m trying my best to eat healthier and have more of a healthier lifestyle. I feel Subway is a healthier option than many other fast food places

Zack O’Neil out there as you can eat a ton of fresh vegetables. I also am trying to work out a lot more than I used to which I feel fits into this category. These concepts I will need to master for the rest of my life as I need to have a healthy and strong body to feel my best. I placed all of the items in a triangle because I view them all as having equal importance in my life and my future. Without one of them, I feel that my life wouldn’t be as good as it could be. Finally, I placed them on my desk because that’s where I always am whether I am doing homework, hanging with friends, watching TV, or just relaxing. I believe these items and their placing correlate to many points made in Becoming A Learner by Matthew Sanders however, a particular one that comes to mind would be that you should be well rounded and learn many things as it is explained through all of chapter two. Throughout our lifetimes, we are going to have to know things that college doesn’t teach us. We will also have to be open to different unexpected things and be able to adapt to those things. The text states, “Your degree doesn’t guarantee you a good job” and “Most of the skills you learn in college will become obsolete”. These two points justify my thoughts of learning other things beyond psychology and sociology as it’ll be necessary to my life and its success to do so. In the workforce, I will need to be able to adapt and have a variety of skills and if I don’t learn things beyond my majors, it’ll be difficult to do so (Sanders, 7 & 10). I heavily agree with the text as an employer isn’t usually going to be looking for someone who can only do one thing. Instead, they will look for someone who is able to do a wide variety of things. Plus, I feel like if you are capable in doing many things over just one thing, you are a much more interesting person and you are well-rounded.

Zack O’Neil Goals: 1. My first goal for my learning career would be to come out of my shell a bit more and contribute to class discussions. This would be great for me as I’d likely find class a lot more enjoyable and I would learn more. I can track this by simply contributing more to the class when I feel I can over time. 2. I feel my second goal should be to get past the “how does this apply to me” mentality. I should be open to learning new things even if they don’t apply to my major so that I can be well-rounded. 3. Finally, I should focus more on learning than getting a good grade. Yes, grades

are important, but I should be happy and excited to learn these concepts when most people aren’t granted that opportunity. Plus, I should be able to remember this information later in my life throughout my career(s)....
