Why is this important
In sum, Beowulf demonstrates through several battles and events in Beowulf’s Hero’s Journey that one must acquire specific exemplary qualities and that said qualities are only achieved through the Christian God, bringing about the transition from Paganism to Christianity to its intended audience in a digestible way in which they have a hero to look to as an outline for how they should lead their lives. Self-confidence is a common trait in stereotypical heroes, but Beowulf offers God as a reason for this assertiveness, meaning that average, mediocre civilians can be just like a hero if they place their trust and faith in Him. Ultimately, this speaks to an aspect of the human condition in which people prove to be reliant on multiple things and entities outside of themselves for their own attributes, concepts of self, and how they generally live, which is one of the reasons why so many people turn to religion....
