Language points In paragraph 2, she lists an extensive list of the journey here, how she had to take many flights, a long drive from the airport etc. These highlight the isolation of the place and also give it a bit of a hidden magical kingdom type feel. “Mountains rise to meet the moon,” a personifcation “ mountains rise” highlighting the height and grandeur of the mountains, helps the reader understand the authors fascination with the place.

After the long list of places she names, she ends it with a much shorter sentence. This slows down the pace of the passage and changes the rhythm.

The first couple paragraphs of the text serve as a foundation introduction to the rest of the text. First paragraph: introduces the place and its beauty. Second paragraph: takes more about beauty, but also introduces that the location of this place is isolated. Third paragraph: introduction to other characters

After stating that he is exhausted but can't sleep the author describes the beauty around her, showing that the reason she can't sleep is due to her being surrounded in this fascinating place. The vivid description using sensory details for describing her colleagues, helps humanize them and allows us to connect with them more. When describing the food there, first she discusses milk powder dried fish, just staple goods, but then she talks about the orange cream cookies in contrast. It's ironic that in Bhutan these cookies are exotic but to her they are not.
