Module One:

1. Based on the types of bias you learned about in the NimblyWise video “Bias and Assumption,” identify the type of bias you discussed, and explain your reasoning. I learned there are several types of biases. For example: Social bias, It occurs when a person makes an assumption or judgement based on a group's assumptions. Confirmation bias is the tendency to seek out information that supports views you already hold. Another type was Communal reinforcement it occurs when an accepted idea in a particular community goes unchallenged 2. Briefly share your thoughts as to why being aware of the existence of biases is important to critical thinking and necessary when doing research, when reviewing information, or when learning about the arguments of others. I feel that the awareness of bias is extremely important to one's critical thinking and it is necessary when doing research as well. My reasoning for this is because being bias whether it is of either category social, ingroup, communal reinforcement or confirmation bias, it's important to our critical thinking, because in order to be courteous and treat others fairly we need to be able to use our own judgment that has not or is not being influenced by someone else's decision. While doing research it is important to our critical thinking in ways like, reading research materials or even getting information from

reliable sources, you always want to remember to never use certain information because of who wrote the information or one maybe your best friend said it was the best resource for her....
