Muscle insertion, origin, and action....

Description

Biceps Brachii Point of Interest: The Biceps Brachii is a muscle located in the front part of the upper arm of a human. The prefix of the word Biceps is “Bi”, which means two. Hence the biceps brachii is made up of two components. These consist of two heads, a long head and a short head that separate and merge at different points to allow for the bicep muscle to fully function. (Karunaharamoorthy, 2021)

Origin: The long head originates from the supraglenoid tubercle which is above the glenoid cavity of the scapula, while the short head comes from the coracoid process (the small hook like bone off of the scapula) (Anatomy Next, 2021)

Action: Flexion and supination of the forearm. It Action: Flexion and supination of the forearm.is also a weak flexor of the upper arm (the short head provides flexion, and the long head provide abduction all to the upper part of the arm) (Anatomy Next, 2021)

(Wikipedia, 2021) Insertion: The long head and short head of the bicep brachii muscle merge together at the middle of the humerus and insert into the radius or radial tuberosity. (Brown, 2021)

(Karunahara moorthy, 2021)

Nerve Supply: The biceps brachii muscle receives its innervation from the C5 and C6 fibers of the musculocutaneous nerve. The brachialis muscle originates on the distal portion of the anterior humerus, and inserts on both the coronoid process and tuberosity of the ulna. (M;, 2021)

Blood Supply: The blood supply of the biceps comes from branches of the brachial artery which lies just beneath the bicep muscles. This artery is a continuation of the axillary artery (the armpit artery). This is the major blood vessel in the upper arm. (Brown, 2021)...
