Description

BL1178 Introduction to Jurisprudence and Legal Theory Refer/Defer Assessment 2019 Revision Planning The refer/defer assessment will be sent you via The Program Office. There is, however, a draft assessment posted on Blackboard where ABS will insert the time/date of submission in due course. If you have not received an official email from the Program Office in regard to your assessment then please email them at [email protected] AND the Laws Office - [email protected] . Students should consider revising as they would have for the first initial assignment. However, if students attempted the original assessment and failed it may mean that they do not understand the brief and/or are not confident with relevant theories/models and/or how to apply them. For that reason, students are strongly encouraged to get in touch with the Paul Dale to discuss the assessment. ( [email protected] ) In addition, an appointment via Aston WASS is strongly recommended. In the first week, students should choose one question from the four on the assessment. Students should think carefully about EXACTLY what the question is asking them to do. In the second week, students should make a plan on how best to tackle the question. There should be an introduction, main body and a conclusion. Students should think about how they intend to argue an answer to the question, they should not ‘sit on the fence’. In weeks three to four, students should re-read the ‘Required’ reading on the theories to be used in their essay and offer critical analysis. Re-watch the lectures associated with these theories. Reading around the topic with their theory(ies) in mind will help to form a solid position from which to make the essay’s central argument. Re-watch lectures which most closely relate to the points you will make in support of your central argument. Be in touch with the module tutors for clarification and advice whenever necessary. In weeks five and six, students should write and finalise their essay. Be in touch with the module tutors for clarification and advice whenever necessary. Please be mindful that this is the summer holidays and the module tutors may be on holiday when you want to discuss the assessment. For that reason, it is in your interest to check with the module tutors to confirm their annual leave dates as well as when it is possible to meet to discuss the assessment. Module tutors for Jurisprudence are Paul Dale ( [email protected] ) and David Salmons ( [email protected] )....
