Bsc 100 lecture 1 note taking summary

Note taking is a very vital technique in documenting the theory taught at university. Note taking though is not a skill that concludes at university rather a skill that is developed throughout university for the sole purpose to prepare university students for the real world where note taking would be more crucial than ever. Note taking enhances our cognitive behaviour by constantly enhancing the performance of our mind which is very important as an alert mind can absorb a lot more. Note taking can be done in several styles such as Cornell, outlining, charting, mapping, sentences styles. The Cornell method of note taking is done in the form of a table separated into two columns, cues and notes. In the cues column you will have the big ideas that you plan to explain in more detail which is what you will do in the notes column. In the outline style you will letters and coefficients to make the layout of the theory content easier to follow. In the chart style you will put the notes in a knots and crosses table where the headings of the notes being compared and contrasted will be set out in a horizontal and vertical square. The sentence style which is the method I often use is the simple method of writing down our notes in normal structured paraphrased sentences and last but not least the mapping style. The mapping style is a visual method of note taking which is a style that places our notes in diagrams and pictures which is probably the hardest style to grasp especially when in a university lecture as you will not have the time to visually draw the information that the lecturer is giving us. These are the several styles of note taking and should be accessible by everyone since different situations make different methods of note taking more appropriate.
