Module Website and Notices: All material and notices relating to this module will be provided in class or distributed via the Blackboard e-learning course: XY1040: Anatomy and Physiology (2020-2021, Full Year) (University Burnley Campus)
Mandatory Assessment Requirements To pass this module you must achieve a mark of 40% or above, aggregated across all the assessments. The above statement simply means, you need to achieve an average mark of 40% across the assessments. Should you fail one of the assessments and have an overall mark of ≥ 40%, there would be no need to resit. However, if your overall mark is lower than 40%, one resit opportunity will be available in the failed element(s).
Assessment details There are three types of assessment for this module: a written lab report, written exams (MCQ) and Practical examination (Spotter test).
1. Physiology Practical Investigation report You will undertake a practical investigation in a small group (3-5 people or via online through Teams) and write up your investigation as a report in standard lab report format. You will be provided with further details and guidance about structuring your report, and about how it will be assessed. You will also have a formative task, in which you will carry out an investigation and submit the report, following which you will receive feedback to help you with the summative report. Although the formative report does not contribute towards your final mark on the module, it is strongly recommended that you submit your best effort, so that the feedback you get will be most useful. 2. MCQ Examinations At the end of the semester, you will undertake 2-hour MCQ examinations that cover the whole anatomy and physiology curriculum. Multiple choice question (MCQ) exams will be taken on a computer under exam conditions. The exams will be taken on a computer under exam conditions. Practice questions of the type that will be in this examination will be used during the tutorial sessions throughout the semester. Practice questions of the type that will be in the exams will be posted on Blackboard during the semester. The MCQ formative examination (30 -45 minutes) will be on 02.03.21. The MCQ summative examination (1 hour 50 minutes) will be on week commencing 04.05.21 and will contribute 40% to your overall mark. 3. Anatomy Spotter test The spotter test is an assessment that will be used to test your practical knowledge of anatomy. During the spotter test, you will be asked to answer question(s) per specimen where the questions will be labelled A, B, C, or D or about the specimen. Specimens will be displaced on the lab table, anatomage or computer. You will go around the room, spending 1 minute at each station. Alternatively, this test might be conducted online via the Blackboard. A formative anatomy spotter test will be conducted before the summative test. This will be on 10.02.21. There will be two summative anatomy spotter tests with each lasting approximately 60 minutes. The dates are 05.03.21 and 13.04.20. The anatomy summative spotter tests will contribute 30% to your overall mark.
