Using the readings for this unit as a guide, discuss what you see as the role of ethics as it pertains to management and managers. The role of ethics as it pertains to management and managers is that of a governing set of standards. Whether written or unwritten, ethics are “reflected in the values, practices, and policies that shape the choices made by decision makers on behalf of their organizations” (Balduzzi, 2020). Does management, in your view, help shape the values and ethics of an organization? In my opinion, management helps shape the values and ethics of an organization by conveying either good or bad ethical values in their decisions and actions. What about an organization’s sustainability efforts and commitment? An organizations sustainability efforts however, I believe are more so shaped by all members of an organization. While an organization may choose to highlight specific sustainability goals, the results ultimately fall back on every individual within the organization. On whom does the responsibility to consider sustainability fall? The responsibility of sustainability falls on every employee within an organization. Is employee behavior, ethical or not, a by-product of the organization's ethical climate? Yes, employees everyday are faced with the difficult pressures of acting within the norm of their organization. If a business supports or even condones unethical decisions, this behaviour is likely to be adopted by others within the organization.

What ideally is the manager's role in helping to create and maintain organizational integrity? The managers role in helping to create and maintain organizational integrity is that of a moderator and trend setter. Managers must convey good ethical decision making themselves, but they must also enforce repercussions when ethical boundaries are crossed by others. Using your professional experience as a backdrop, provide examples of managers who have demonstrated ethical behavior (or not) and discuss how this affected the organization, the employees, etc. You might actively consider and incorporate sustainability-related efforts and behaviors in your analysis and reply. Working in procurement, I have come across a fair deal of ethical dilemmas. In one case, I received a file from a vendor that contained our order list, along with a list of other customers information. While I had just begun my role at the time, I reached out to my manager for guidance. He advised that we should inform the vendor of the error and immediately delete the file and email. I always looked up to this particular manager and appreciated that he provided clear guidance that followed the ethics principals our company promoted. This is just one example of how the leadership within our organization always choses the ethical path as opposed to other potentially advantageous ones.
