Portfolio Shell Creation Quality and Safety Quality and safety are an integral part of the nursing and the healthcare system as a whole. Safety signifies beneficence and care for the patient and quality care increases favorable outcomes. With quality and safety, the goal is to eliminate adverse outcomes and prevent harm to the patient while providing the best care to our abilities. We utilize the fundamentals of quality and safety during every procedure, administering all care and focusing on our patients and their beliefs and needs. These processed help improve quality outcomes and favorable end results. I, myself am a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Nurse. I work with specialized devices such as balloon pumps, Impella pumps, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy, targeted temperature management systems, Swan-Ganz catheters and fresh open hearts. Quality care and safety are the top priority in my specialty. My main job is not only to provide patient care but to ensure quality and safety of that care. The risk for infection with my patient population is extremely high. Utilizing policies and procedures based off evidence-based practice in my top priority in caring for these types of patients. I care and provide treatment for my patients in the same manner I would want for myself and my loved ones. I provide honesty, compassion and transparency with patients I care for but above all my job is to provide safety and do no harm to those under my care. Evidence-Based Practice Evidence-Based practice is the forefront of the field of nursing and healthcare. We utilize the knowledge and evidence gathered from daily practices by using scientific research studies to build upon nursing practices. Evidence-Based practice is used to collect information and data, determining what the normal hospital practices are and analyzing the favorable versus the unfavorable data. After completing the Evidence-Based Practice and Applied Nursing Research cohort, I was made more aware of how important the research analysis in evidence-based practice is and the outline it provides to the nursing professional standards. Within the course, I had to utilize scientific studies and data and apply my discoveries to my practice. Now, as a nurse, I use stepby-step processes using evidenced-based practice to treat, assess and manage patients and their needs. Applied Leadership As nurses, we apply leadership directed in patient care. Patient care is our number one objective. Nurses display honesty as well readiness to learn and contribute to the nursing practice of quality of care. Leaders set the example of willingness to acknowledge faults and learn from past mistakes to improve overall patient care. Leaders are those who are respected by their peers and are able to help put new policies in action by listening to their staff and educating. Leaders are also innovators by using benevolence towards not only patients but staff. As a CVICU nurse, I have learned to adapt to my environment. I have had to learn new methods and practices many time throughout my career. Every time there is a new machine I have to learn to manage or new policy in the hospital, I am given the support of my leadership team in being provided the proper education to be successful. When I am precepting a new nurse to the unit, I utilize my leadership skills in teaching them techniques they have not learned before and to answer questions they may have. Leadership is all about the success of your staff and peers. Community and Population Health

Portfolio Shell Creation No matter where you are, all communities and populations have their own unique medical issues as well as systemic issues across the world. Most recently, the entire world was shut down due to one virus. Economies, businesses and schools were all closed unless it was a frontline business due to a world lockdown quarantine. For the past year, I have been working with COVID-19 patients, even to this day. These patients require ECMO, CRRT, and daily proning in order to help fight this virus. This pandemic similarly represents the HIV pandemic in the 1980’s, where no one was sure how to treat this virus. This brings me back to my Community and Population course, where I researched the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on my Florida county. In adjunction to this virus, I learned about the other comorbidities and chronic diseases the plagued my community. With my collected research, I was able to create a community plan to help lessen the spread of COVID-19 throughout my community with educational resources, internet ads and news information. Throughout my research, I learned my community is not very different from other communities throughout this pandemic....
