Cardiac Tamponade Med Surg: Cardiac
Pathophysiology COMPRESSION OF THE HEART caused by fluid collecting in the pericardial sac. (weaker pump = less cardiac output)
This is a medical emergency as fluid or blood fills the pericardial sac, compressing the heart so that it cannot fill & pump! The result is a dramatic drop in blood pressure that can kill the client. MEMORY TRICK
