Description

1) Question1: Which blood vessels always carry blood away from the heart, arteries or veins? Arteries carry blood away from the heart. 2) Why must you have a person on a hard surface to do effective heart compressions in CPR? You must have a person a hard surface to perform CPR, because it will allow the compression of hands to squeeze between the sternum or ribs and the spinal cord. Allowing the blood to flow through the individuals body. 3) If a surgeon is inserting a needle into your heart, in order, through which layers (pericardia and heart wall) will the needle pass? He would start in the Fibrous pericardium and then Serous pericardium(parietal layer). Then working his way to the Pericardial cavity. Then the serous pericardium(visceral layer)Epicardium then he will hit Myocardium, and finally the Endocardium. 4) Think about the function of the chambers of the heart. In which chamber will the myocardium be the thickest? Why? The myocardium will be the thickest in the aortic valve, because it’s located on the left side of the heart. Which has to create more pressure to pump blood to the entire body. b. Aortic valve – found in the entryway to the aorta 5) Look at the location of the heart. Why does the left common carotid come directly off the aorta, but blood going to the right common carotid artery has to go into the brachiocephalic trunk first? Why don’t both carotid arteries come directly off the aorta? Both left and right carotid arteries are in the locations they are in, because they are needed in supplying the blood evenly to the upper portion of the body. The left

carotid artery comes directly from the aorta, because it is needed to supply blood to the left side of the neck, brain, and head. The right carotid artery comes directly from the brachiocephalic trunk, because it is needed to supply the right side of the neck, brain, and head blood. If both left and right common carotid arteries were to come directly from the aorta. The blood would not be able to be evenly distributed to the head, neck, and brain. 6) All arteries carry oxygenated blood EXCEPT for which? All veins carry deoxygenated blood EXCEPT for which? All arteries except for pulmonary arteries. All veins carry deoxygenated blood, except for pulmonary veins. 7) Which two vessels lie within the anterior interventricular sulcus? The left coronary artery and the great cardiac vein lie within the anterior interventricular sulcus. 8) What two structures exist in fetal circulation that allow blood flow to partially bypass? The mother's blood is transferred across the placenta to the fetus with the help of the umbilical cord, and the foramen ovale also helps blood to flow to partially bypass....
