THE STORY OF EBOLA
CASE STUDY OF EBOLA An adult female patient, who is from a town in Africa presents vomiting, diarrhea, fever and severe dehydration. The patient has had an evolution of the symptoms for several days with a worsening of the vomiting, diarrhea, fever and dehydration. The patient is then translated to a local hospital where she is accompanied by her husband. Her family history presents a father with a recent death from the Ebola virus. She is the immediately given an Ebola test and she is given a positive result. The patient is then treated and isolated right away. She later presented a rapid and adequate evolution to both pharmacological and nutritional treatment. She is the discharged within a few days, because she had already been cured because of the proper treatment under the right amount of time.
QUESTIONS What is the proper treatment? There is no specific medical treatment for Ebola hemorrhagic fever so the patients have to be given and monitored by providing intravenous fluids (IV) and balancing electrolytes (body salts), while maintaining oxygen status and blood pressure. How do you kill the virus? The virus that stays inside the house and the one on the body is bathed by a saline solution which gets rid up of Ebola.
Is there a cure for Ebola? There currently is a vaccine that was approved by the United States, called rVSVZEBOV, which has been used throughout 2018 and 2019.
How is Ebola transmitted? Ebola is transmitted through saliva, tears, sexual fluid, vomit, diarrhea, breast milk, sweat and blood. When does recovery begin for Ebola? Recovery may begin between seven and 14 days after first symptoms.
