1. What is Paula’s Diagnosis? Provide description/definition of the disorder.  Paula’s diagnosis was Dissociative Identity disorder or DID also known as multiple personality disorder. This disorder involve problems with memory, identity, emotion, perception, behavior and sense of self. Dissociative symptoms can potentially disrupt every area of mental functioning. In addition, it associated with overwhelming experiences, traumatic events and/or abuse that occurred in childhood. 2. Based on the DSM-5, what are the symptoms of this disorder? Enumerate them. Symptoms of dissociative identity disorder includes:  The existence of two or more distinct identities (or “personality states”). The distinct identities are accompanied by changes in behavior, memory and thinking. The signs and symptoms may be observed by others or reported by the individual.  Memory loss (amnesia) of certain time periods, events, people and personal information  A sense of being detached from yourself and your emotions  A perception of the people and things around you as distorted and unreal  A blurred sense of identity  Significant stress or problems in your relationships, work or other important areas of your life  Inability to cope well with emotional or professional stress  Mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors 3. Compare Paula’s symptoms with the symptoms indicated in DSM5. Enumerate and explain the symptoms of Paula to support your diagnosis.  All of the symptoms of DID possess by Paula where she shows multiple personality. Where she shift into Sherry, who experience sexual harass, then Janet a teenager girl who get drunk then Caroline a 5year old who physically abuse by her mother. Paula also has a memory loss where she couldn’t remember all her shifting experience though she can recall and discuss some aspect of her childhood but her memory was sketchy it was a blurred sense of identity and she preferred not to talk about it. Paula’s behavior is erratic or changeable where her moods frequently and quickly change from anger and irritability to severe depression as Dr. Harpin observed. She also has mental problems such as depression, anxiety and threatened suicide on several occasions and complain about headache, dizziness and breathing problems. 4.
