Robin hood case 1. What is strategy? Strategy is the right direction and scope of the organization in long term with achieving advantage in changing environment by resources and competences to fulfilling expectation of the stakeholders.

2. What strategic problems does Robin Hood have? Strategic problems must be resolve to achieve mission of the organization. In the case robin hood face many problems that can become hurdle to achieve a goal.  First issue is that revenues are down because travellers are avoiding routes through Sherwood forest.  Costs are rising as new recruits are joining the band as a result in lack of supply of food and other necessary resources. Here the diseconomies of scale becoming a serious issue for the Robin hood.  Due to the down revenue and high cost, Robin hood concerned about the successful continuation of mission - “rob from rich and give to the poor”.  His original group shared the common bond and values but the new recruit may have different value and reasons for joining the band.  The sheriff, who is in the opposition getting stronger and getting better organizer

3. What is the role of the organizational leader as strategist and articulator of global goals? Robin hood considered himself as a leader this gave him numerous duties toward the organization. He created the band and found the member who can work for organization. He was the final decision maker when it comes to delegate a task and responsibility. He created vision and vision for the band. He is the one who collected money from rich and gave to the poor.

4. What are some issues in this organization’s external environment? Opportunities  Expand operations in geographic area outside Sherwood forest so that they can escape from declining market opportunities in Sherwood forest  Accepting the offer of barons to help in securing king Richard’s release so that it become another source of income and will get political light on the group  Imposed a Fixed transit tax Threats  The sheriff is growing stronger in all term from money, men and facilities  Drying up of target market for revenue as travellers are avoiding routes through Sherwood market  Support of Prince john to sheriff 5. What is the relationship of the organization’s internal structure to its environment? Strengths  Increasing the size of the band  Increase in the popularity of Merrymen which allow them to make differentiation in the community  So far, group is operated successfully Weakness  Increase in the size of band is also considered as a weakness because it resulted into the high costs and leads to diseconomies of scale  Enforcement of discipline is become harder due to differentiation in culture  No particular way for recruitment  Food has to transport from long distance

6. How do group values or culture influence strategy making? The values of Unity and profit for the poor gave the Robin hood the idea of creating band and mission and also finding members to follow the same ideals. The values of band become the future goal. The culture of group that brings altogether, the Merrymen wanted to be a part of something that was bigger than themselves and help those in need. And to do this in the name of brotherhood was the main important point when identifying how to set and implement the goals they founded.

7. What strategy can Robin Hood implement? Robin hood should alliance with baron to secure king Richard’s releases and also conduct meeting with merrymen to explain all strategic dilemma faced by organization. Other thigs that Robin hood can do is- stop accepting recruits or little John can layoff some people, who are not following discipline. And the last strategy he can adopt is to go outside of Sherwood forest to get more revenue....
